Vernon Considers On-Site Medical Services at Schools

The matter will go to a public hearing.

The Vernon Town Council voted to schedule a public hearing about two planned school-based health clinics.

The plan involves leasing space at Rockville high School and Maple Street School to First Choice Health Services, according to the Hartford Courant. It would be a way to reduce time spent away from the classroom by providing medical, dental and mental health services on-site.

Some language in the agreement was changed after Mayor Dan Champagne expressed concern about the schools being exposed to lawsuits.

The agreement is now a pure lease and is similar to how doctors lease space from a landlord.

The public hearing will take place on May 5.
