Vernon DPW Hosting Community Day

The Vernon Department of Public Works will be hosting a ​community day Saturday.

VERNON, CT — The Vernon Department of Public Works will be hosting a community day Saturday.

The event is slated for 9 a.m. to noon at the Vernon Public Works Facility, 375 Hartford Turnpike.

The following activities are scheduled:

  • Equipment show and stormwater demonstrations - Check out vehicles of all shapes and sizes including a dump truck, a fire truck, a plow truck, an ambulance, the automated payloader that is used to collect refuse and recycling, and many more. Town and State personnel will be available to answer questions about their jobs and the public will have a chance to explore and climb aboard the big trucks.
  • A mobile shredding unit will be available to give area residents the opportunity to have their confidential documents destroyed on site. A maximum of 3 boxes per vehicle will be shred.
  • Sign up to receive important information by text, e-mail or voicemail through Vernon's community notification system "Alert Vernon".

A cash donation will be collected to benefit Vernon Social Services Assistance Programs. For more information, call the Public Works Department at 860-870-3500.
