Vernon Hosting Regional Mass Casualty Drill — Volunteer Participants Needed
The exercise prepares responders for the real thing and community service is credited.
VERNON, CT — Vernon Public School system officials are seeking individuals interested in volunteering as role players for a large scale mass casualty drill scheduled for Friday Oct. 7, 2016 at Rockville High School.
The drill is staged periodically by first-responders from across the region to prepare for the real thing.
The role players will be simulated patients for emergency responders at the training exercise. Role players will need to report by 1 p.m. and should be finished by 6:30 p.m.

Role players must be high school age or older and have good mobility. Vernon Schools will credit participation toward the community service graduation requirement.

Similar drills have been staged in the past. For example, in 2013, the drill focused on a car slamming into students on the bleachers at the Rockville High School football stadium.
Public safety officials have not divulged this year's scenario to maintain the element of surprise.
