Vernon Officials Calling For Unique Memorial Day 2020 Observance
Vernon is staging a unique Memorial Day observance in 2020.

VERNON, CT —Vernon officials are encouraging all residents to "honor our veterans" by displaying American Flags and Armed Forces Flags this Memorial Day Weekend.
On Monday, at 11 a.m., Mayor Daniel Champagne and the Vernon Fire Department will briefly sound sirens in remembrance of those who gave the last full measure of devotion.
Residents are encouraged to join the tribute by ringing bells, Champagne said.

"We are grateful for the many sacrifices our veterans have made to uphold our freedoms," Champagne said. "Please join me in honoring these brave men and women on Memorial Day so we can remember and honor their legacy of service."
After "careful consideration of health and safety," and in accordance with Gov. Ned Lamont's orders, Vernon officials canceled this year's in-person Memorial Day Parade.
