Vernon Police Seeking Purse Thief

Vernon police are searching for an unknown man who was caught on videotape stealing two purses from a Rockville church Friday morning.

Around 10:30 a.m., a white male with gray hair in a ponytail entered the basement hall of St. Bernard’s Church in downtown Rockville. This man was caught on video stealing two purses from the church. One of the purses belonged to an elderly female who was volunteering at the church to set up for a Breakfast with Santa tomorrow morning, police said.

The purses were discovered discarded a short distance from the church.

Through investigation, police discovered the male was at a local liquor store making a purchase shortly after the theft.

Police are releasing photos of the suspect in hope that someone can identify him. Anyone with information is asked to call Vernon Police at 860-872-9126. Callers may remain anonymous.
