VERNON, CT — The Vernon Parks and Recreation Department is taking an aggressive approach to filling its summer staffing requirements.

Job applications are already available on the department website. Positions include camp counselor, junior camp counselor and life guard, Vernon Parks and Recreation Director Marty Sitler said.

Sitler is hoping that with many coronavirus concerns being lifted, he can get an early start on hiring. Last summer, Vernon was limited in its offerings because of a low number of job applications. Normally, college-age staffers rush to get the positions, but this summer, Sitler expects to consider high schoolers 16 and older.

The frustrations over staffing limited Vernon to offer summer swimming at just one pool, Bolton Lake and Valley Falls Pond.

Summer camps are traditionally staged at places like Newhoca Park and Henry Park.
