Vernon Students Honor Vets on Billboard

Veteran Issues will be part of the Nov. 11 lesson plans at local schools.

VERNON, CT — The Vernon public school system is honoring veterans near one of the town's busiest stretches of road.

The latest version in a series of billboard messages at the corner of Route 83 and Loveland Hill Road thanks veterans for their service and celebrates the more than 3,000 cards and letters sent to veterans by local students last year for Veterans Day.

The billboard is just down the hill from Rockville High School.

Nov. 11 is Veterans Day and Vernon students are in school that day. Some years back, local school officials decided to have classes that day and include veterans issues in that day's curriculum. Veterans are often invited to speak at the schools.

The billboard has already honored local athletes and academic programs since the start of school.
