Vernon, SW, Tolland and Ellington Sharing Fire Marshal Services

NORTHCENTRAL, CT — Four towns in the area — Vernon, Tolland, Ellington and South Windsor — will be sharing fire marshal services in 2020.

It's the first year that four towns are involved with the program, Vernon Town Manager Michael Purcaro said. He called the efforts, "communities helping communities."

An outline of the program approved at the Jan. 6 South Windsor Town Council meeting shows the services will be shared using staffers from all four towns on a mutual aid basis and the fire marshals would be considered staff members in all respective towns. If a fire marshal in one town has a heavy workload, he or she can call upon the neighbors for help, according to the agreement.

For example, the fire marshals from Vernon, Tolland and Ellington are considered deputy fire marshals in South Windsor.
