Woman Who Died in Rail Trail Incident Lived in Vernon: Police

Vernon police on Wednesday updated a fatal incident on the rail trail.

VERNON, CT — Police on Wednesday said the woman who died in an incident along the Rails-to-Trails system the previous day lived in Vernon and was in her 30s.

Police are not releasing her name, citing an ongoing investigation. Belongings were found at the top of the ridge, police said.

The woman was found unresponsive by someone on the main trail in Vernon at 7:45 a.m. on Tuesday, a busy time for morning workouts. The trail draws runners, cyclists and hikers from throughout the area.

The woman was found on the trail at the base of a 100-foot cliff accessed by a spur off the main trail. The cliff is located a short distance toward Bolton near the 2.1-mile marker and a bench. The terrain is defined by a sharp outcropping that overlooks the main trail.

Responders administered CPR and the woman was taken to Rockville General Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead, he said.
