Zahner's Moving Down Route 30

Zahner's Clothiers is heading to the same plaza that Rein's Deli calls home.

One Vernon institution is moving right next door to another.

Zahner's Clothiers, the popular men's store that has been in business for 60 years, is moving down Route 30 and will be a neighbor to another popular business in town - Rein's Deli.

The move is scheduled for about two months from now.

Scott Zahner, whose family has run the business since it opened in 1951, said the store was on a month-to-month lease at the Route 30 space it has occupied for 18 years, but the move down the road to the Shops at 30 plaza "seemed like the right fit.''

''We are not being forced to move, it just seemed to work,'' Zahner said. ''We had an opportunity to move to a nice location in a very busy plaza and we are taking advantage of it.''

Zahner's will occupy a 2,200-square-foot space in the front of the plaza near the Verizon Wireless outlet. Zahner said it is actually slightly smaller than the current store, but said he thinks the layout is better at the new place.

June 25 will be the last day for Zahner's at its present location. It will be open at the new location no later than June 30, Zahner said.

Before heading to 435 Hartford Turnpike, Zahner said the business will try to "lighten the load'' a bit with a sale. That means "huge savings" on the winter line and reduced prices on spring attire, he said.

Mayor Jason McCoy met with Zahner on Friday to lend his support.

''Zahner's has been a great neighbor for many years,'' McCoy said.
