Active Shooter Training Announced In Wallingford: Police
Police are advising residents that the department will conduct active shooter training in Wallingford next week.
WALLINGFORD, CT — Police are advising residents that the department will conduct active shooter training at Lyman Hall High School, 70 Pond Hill Rd., from Monday, Aug. 2 through Friday, Aug. 6.
Training will be conducted in four-hour blocks, beginning at 8 a.m. and 12 noon each day, according to Sgt. Stephen Jaques. The Regional Cheshire- Wallingford Emergency Response Team will conduct their training block from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Aug. 6.
“The Wallingford Police Department recognizes that preserving human life, especially our youth, is of the highest importance,” Jaques wrote in a news release. “The goal of this training is to keep officers familiar with dealing with this type of incident, should they ever need to respond to such a dire situation. The specified training will achieve this goal by providing officers with Wallingford Police Department Active Shooter Response policy reinforcement, tactical drills, and realistic, scenario-based situations.

“Officers will utilize specialized equipment throughout different evolutions of this training to include department issued rifles, door breaching equipment, and the recently purchased ‘Patrol Bat’ Tactical Ballistic Shield. The ‘Patrol Bat’ is designed to protect responders from an active shooter. It is composed of armor panels designed to protect officers from being struck by incoming rounds.”
