Assistant Superintendent Jan Guarino Leaving Wallingford
The Wallingford school administrator is taking a job as superintendent in the Old Saybrook school system, officials said Wednesday.

After four years in the role of assistant superintendent of personnel, Jan Guarino is leaving.
Superintendent Sal Menzo said Guarino was appointed superintendent of the Old Saybrook school district on Monday.
“We’re really excited for her,” Menzo said. “I know this has always been her aspiration to become a superintendent, and that’s really nice she was able to accomplish that. A district like Old Saybrook is a great fit for her.”
Guarino started in Wallingford as the director of human resources in 2009. She previously came from the Lyme where she served as principal of Lyme-Old Lyme High School, according to Lymeline.com.
She then succeeded as assistant superintedent of personnsel, one of two assistant jobs to the Wallingford superintendent.
“It was nice to work with her as she grew into the position,” Menzo said. “She’s a very intelligent lady and a very hard worker.“
In Old Saybrook, Guarino will be paid $163,500, The Record-Journal newspaper reported. Her salary in Wallingford was $139,260, Menzo said.
Guarino will leave the school district on June 30 and start in Old Saybrook on July 1.
In the meantime, Menzo said the job opening has been posted and the district hopes to have someone appointed to the job of assistant superintendent of personnel by the middle of June.
