WALLINGFORD, CT — A resident on Whiffletree Road reported there is a black bear “cruising” the neighborhood on Tuesday afternoon, according to the Wallingford Animal Control.
“It is absolutely normal and not at all surprising that our bear friend is out and about,” the animal control wrote in a post on Facebook. “Please use caution and DO NOT approach the bear, or congregate to observe him/her. Do NOT let your pets or children approach the bear.
“It is unknown if this is a Mama bear. If it is, she will be protective of her cubs that are undoubtedly nearby.

“Please enjoy this bear and all wildlife from afar, ideally from inside your homes. You are jeopardizing YOUR safety AND the safety of the bear by approaching him/her.
“Please take in bird feeders and secure garbage cans in outbuildings so the bear has less of a reason to hang out in your yard.”
