Join us for an introduction to the kimono, the best-known but least-understood Japanese traditional garment! Volunteers from the Japan Society of Greater Hartford will give a short history of the kimono, which dates back centuries in Japanese culture, while highlighting its unique attributes and discussing the many different types of kimono still being worn today. The program will include a demonstration of the full process of putting on a kimono and emphasize the differences between the kimono and the better-known summer yukata. Members of the audience will be invited to try on authentic kimonos with guidance from the presenters!
This is a hybrid program; patrons have the option of attending in-person at the library or virtually on Zoom. Registration is required; please sign up using this link!
