In March 2021, 67-year-old Skip Fredericksen of New Hartford embarked on the journey of a lifetime: a 205-day thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail, stretching from Amicalola Falls, Georgia to Mount Katahdin, Maine. Joined by his two daughters—trail names “Nocs” and “Zazu”—Skip, who became known on the trail as “Whitecap,” faced the physical and mental challenges of a long-distance trek as an older adventurer keeping pace with younger hikers. In this engaging presentation, Skip shares the trials, tribulations, and triumphs of their 2,193-mile hike through a captivating slideshow, accompanied by trail-born songs set to Broadway show tunes. This is a tongue-in-cheek celebration of family, endurance, and the unforgettable stories that emerge when three people walk nearly the length of the East Coast together.
This is a hybrid program; patrons have the option of attending in-person at the library or virtually on Zoom. We're hosing some of Connecticut's most popular brewers! Sample six 4 oz. local beers while exploring our famous Corn Maze during this special tasting event on&nbsp;Friday, October 2nd from 5:00 PM - 7:30 PM.&nbsp;(Last entry for the corn maze is 20 minutes&nbsp;before sunset!)&nbsp;Another Brew Maze will be held on Saturday, October 31st.&nbsp;<a href="https://lymanorchards.com/event/halloween-brew-maze-2026/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">View that event here.</a>

Enjoy&nbsp;live music&nbsp;at 1741 Pub &amp; Grill from 6 PM - 9 PM after the tasting (reservations required).&nbsp;
Event is 21+.&nbsp;Everyone must show ID to enter. No children allowed, no exceptions.
As part of your beer tasting experience, we invite you to arrive any time during the beer tasting hours and sample beer from three breweries that will be set up outside of the maze. Then, meander through the pathways of the&nbsp;corn maze!&nbsp;Last entry for the corn maze is right before sunset!&nbsp;After that, don't forget to play some corn hole, do a potato sack race, use the mini golf putting area, Jenga, and more!
We suggest you wear boots and bring a flashlight as it may get dark before you finish your journey in the maze!
