A Wallingford company is working to address soil contamination around abandoned underground oil tanks.

WALLINGFORD, CT - A Wallingford company is working to address soil contamination around abandoned underground oil tanks, myrecordjournal.com reported.

According to a 2009 environmental assessment, excessive amounts of petroleum hydrocarbons were reportedly found in the soil on the property at 358 Hall Avenue, myrecordjournal.com reported. Petroleum hydrocarbon refers to any chemical compound that originates from crude oil.

Officials said two abandoned10,000 gallon underground oil tanks produced the contamination, myrecordjournal.com reported. Engineering firm Arcadis has been contracted by Times Microwave Systems to install a geomembrane cap over the oil tanks, which will help prevent pollutants from spreading.
