Driver Ejected, Hospitalized After Rollover Crash: Wallingford PD
The crash occurred at about 2:10 a.m. on Monday.

WALLINGFORD, CT — A Hamden man was seriously injured in a rollover crash early Monday morning in Wallingford in which he was ejected from the vehicle after crashing into two utility poles, according to police. Alex Rodriguez, 33, of Hamden, was found by a witness lying on the embankment between South Colony Road (Route 5) and the Amtrak train tracks, according to Lt. Anthony DeMaio. Rodriguez was taken from the scene to Yale-New Haven Hospital where he is being treated for his injuries, DeMaio said on Monday morning.
Police are continuing to investigate the crash, which occurred at about 2:10 a.m. on Sept. 10 on South Colony Road near its intersection with Picket Avenue in Wallingford. Rodriguez was operating a 2007 Hyundai northbound on South Colony Road just prior to the crash. To sign up for Wallingford breaking news alerts and more, click here.
“For reasons not yet known, as the Hyundai traveled northbound it left its northbound travel lane, crossed over the two southbound travel lanes and then left the roadway where it made contact with two utility poles,” DeMaio wrote in a press release. “The force of impact with the second utility pole snapped the pole, which induced a vehicle rollover sequence. The vehicle rolled over and came to rest on its passenger side, adjacent to the eastern most set of Amtrak train rails. Rodriguez was ejected from the vehicle and found by a witness lying on the embankment between South Colony Road and the train tracks.”

South Colony Road was closed, between Willard and McKenzie Avenues, for about four hours while police reconstructed the collision. Amtrak train traffic was also affected and coordinated through on-scene Amtrak personnel, according to DeMaio.
DeMaio said police are continuing to investigate the crash and any witnesses who may have seen the collision, or had contact with Rodriguez within the hours preceding the crash, are encouraged to call Officer Anthony Baur at 203-294-2817, or a member of the WPD Traffic Division at 203-294-2815.
