Father and Son Arrested After Gun, Drug Paraphernalia Found: PD

Three men were arrested in New Haven. Two men are from North Haven and one is from Wallingford.

NEW HAVEN, CT—Police arrested three people after a block watch complaint turned up a gun and drugs inside a vehicle, according to police.

Officers responded to a report of three men in a car doing drugs near Castle and Monroe streets July 24 around 5 p.m., said Officer David Hartman, police spokesman.

Driver Daniel Foley, 27, of North Haven said the men were waiting for a mechanic, but couldn't say the mechanic's name when asked by police. He appeared to be nervous, Hartman said.

Anything illegal in the vehicle, asked Officer White. Foley responded, there wasn’t. Can we take a look? Foley consented. A syringe and a couple zip-lock baggies with drug residue were the first items found inside. The three men were patted-down. Daniel A. Nazario was asked if he had anything on him.

He did – a syringe and a spoon in his pants pocket. When Daniel E. Nazario was patted-down by White, he felt the recognizable form of a handgun. Officer White let the others know what he’d discovered by saying loudly the numerical code for a weapon. Nazario reacted by ‘correcting’ what he thought was the officers misidentification of the gun’s caliber. He said, “No. It’s a .25”.

Daniel E. Nazario had no permit and was charged with carrying a pistol without one and weapon in a motor vehicle. His cohorts were charged with drug paraphernalia possession. The loaded Beretta handgun, syringes, spoon and drug residue-containing baggies were confiscated and entered as evidence. The Nazarios are father and son.

The Block Watch caller did a fine job reporting the crime she suspected.
