Fire Damages Chinese Restaurant in Wallingford Strip Mall
The restaurant is expected to be closed for the foreseeable future after sustaining serious damage in the early Wednesday morning fire.

An early Wednesday morning fire caused serious damage to the Hong Kong Chinese Restaurant in the East Center Street strip mall and the business will likely be closed for the foreseeable future, according to fire officials.
NBC Connecticut reports firefighters responded to the restaurant, located at 822 East Center Street, around 3 a.m. and there was a fire in the kitchen when crews arrived.
Firefighters had the blaze under control within 30 minutes but smoke did carry into some of the adjacent buildings, according to NBC.

The Meriden Record-Journal reports firefighters cut a hole through the restaurant’s roof to ventilate the building and prevent damage to the adjacent units.
Hong Kong’s interior sustained heavy smoke damage and areas in the kitchen are charred, according to the Record-Journal.

The restaurant was empty at the time of the fire and there were no injuries.
The other businesses in the strip mall are open today.
The cause of the fire is unknown and under investigation, according to NBC.
