First-Ever Citizen’s Police Academy Announced In Wallingford

WALLINGFORD, CT — The Wallingford Police Department is accepting applications for its first-ever Citizen’s Police Academy, which will take place next year. The 10-week program begins Wednesday, April 1, 2020 and meets once a week on Wednesdays from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Wallingford Police Department. Graduation will be held on Wednesday, June 3, 2020.

Preference will be given to Town of Wallingford residents. Applicants must be 21 years of age or older and there is no fee for the program. Class size will be limited to 20 students. Due to the high demand for this course, qualified applicants will be accepted on a first come/first serve basis to finalize the class roster. Accepted members will be contacted upon completion of the background check. Questions should be directed to the attention of Deputy Chief John Ventura at jventura@wallingfordpd.org.

The Citizen’s Police Academy provides a first-hand overview of both law enforcement and community-related functions of the Police Department. Instructors for the program are highly-trained and experienced Wallingford Police Officers. Topics of instruction include:

  • Introduction to Policing/ Court Procedures
  • Use of Force
  • Domestic Violence Investigations
  • Patrol Operations
  • Motor Vehicle Stops/DUI Criminal Investigations
  • Emergency Response Team/Crisis Negotiations

Class Dates: April 1, 8,15,22,29 /May 6,13,20,27 /June 3.
