WALLINGFORD, CT — A former Ku Klux Klan leader has been removed as senior vice commander of the local Veterans of Foreign Wars post in Wallingford, according to the Meriden Record-Journal.
The Record-Journal reports Scott E. Palmer was recently revealed to have run a Meriden-Wallingford chapter of the Ku Klux Klan in the 1990s and was convicted of multiple hate crimes against minority groups. Palmer was the second-highest ranking officer of VFW Post 591 in Wallingford as senior vice commander.
Despite initially backing Palmer for what he has done for veterans in his involvement with the local VFW, Michael Del Monaco, commander of Post 591, announced on Facebook Tuesday afternoon that Palmer has been removed from his post.
