Has the Population in Wallingford Increased?

The U.S. Census Bureau reported today which municipalities in Connecticut experienced the largest increases in population last year.

The municipality gaining the most people in Connecticut between July 1, 2013 and July 1, 2014, was Stamford whose population rose by 1,590 over the period. Stamford was followed by Stratford (population increase of 502), Darien (310), Fairfield (230) and East Lyme (222).

According to the Census Bureau statistics released Thursday, Wallingford’s population has decreased from 2010 through 2014. In 2010, 45,135 people lived in Wallingford and now it’s at 45,074, which is a decrease of 61 people.

For the entire state, Connecticut’s population was 3,574,097 as of April 1, 2010 and as of July 1, 2014 it’s increased slightly to 3,596,677. Most of the population increases were in Fairfield County.

Fairfield County saw an increase in population rising from 916,829 in 2010 to 945,438 as of 2014.

Hartford County also saw a very slight increase in population as 897,985 residents live there now and in 2010 that figure was 894,014.

New Haven County’s population was pretty stable. In 2010, 862,477 people lived in New Haven County and now it’s at 861,277.

New London County’s population also stayed relatively stable as it was 274,055 in 2010 and now it’s 273,676, and the same for Middlesex County as it’s population is now 164,943, which is a minimal decrease from 165,676 in 2010.

The population estimates are based on annual population estimates since the 2010 Census and up to July 1, 2014.
