WALLINGFORD, CT — Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.

This submission comes from Carmel D. Durant, who nominated Peyton of Wallingford.

How do you know the star local student?

Grandson

Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?

Peyton has been recognized as a scholar athlete, inducted into the National Honor society, and is currently ranked in the top 10 of the LHHS 2023 graduation class.

Outside the classroom, Peyton has been instrumental in organizing activities that recognize the Best Buddies Program. This past fall, Peyton helped organize the 'Fockey Game' at LHHS with all Fockey proceeds going to the Best Buddies program.

Once again, in winter sports, Peyton worked with administrators to have a fundraiser for the BB program at a home hockey game. The Best Buddies students were given the team's hockey (away) jerseys to wear during the game and were seated in the home cheering section. The proceeds and donations from the game were donated to the LHHS Best Buddies program.

Both of these fundraisers were the first of their kind, with the organization work Peyton has done, we hope that they will become a tradition for other LHHS athletes to carry forward.

Peyton has reached out to the school and greater community to help less fortunate students get recognized for their hard work.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star local student?

Peyton's compassion to make the space around him a better place especially for others who may not have the same advantages.

Congratulations on your achievements, and all of our best wishes to you in the future, Peyton!
