How Has Wallingford's Household Income Changed Since the 2007 Recession?

The Connecticut Mirror took an in-depth look at income brackets in Connecticut from 2007 to 2013 and they found that there are more higher income and lower income households, which means that the middle class is shrinking.

In Wallingford, the number of households earning $200,000 or more in 2013 was 4.7 percent, and that rate was 3.3 percent in 2007. The number of households earning $100,000 or more in 2013 was 36 percent and it was 27.3 percent in 2007 in Wallingford.

Overall for Connecticut, the number of households earning more than $200,000 in Connecticut grew by 1.7 percent from 2007 to 2013 and now stands at 9 percent.

The number of households earning more than $100,000 in Connecticut grew by 3.8 percent from 2007 to 2013 and is now at 33.1 percent.

But the number of households in Connecticut earning $25,000 or less has actually increased slightly from 2007 to 2013 and now stands at 18.6 percent.

Wallingford, however, bucks that trend.

In Wallingford, 15.4 percent of the households earned less than $25,000 in 2007 and that number decreased to 13.1 percent in 2013.

Wallingford households earning $35,000 to $49,999 increased from 12.5 percent in 2007 to 13 percent in 2013 but those earning $50,000 to $74,999 decreased from 22.4 to 17.7 percent.
