WALLINGFORD, CT — A female jogger was hospitalized after being struck by a vehicle Friday morning in Wallingford, according to police.

Police responded to Center Street near its intersection with South Colony Road around 11:35 a.m. on Sept. 9 where a pedestrian was struck, according to Sgt. Stephen Jaques.

Arriving officers found a woman with “noticeable injuries,” according to Jaques. She was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital where she was treated for her injuries, Jaques said.

Jaques said the woman’s identity is known to police, but isn’t being released at this time. No criminal charges have been filed as of Saturday, according to Jaques.

The preliminary investigation found that a red 2019 Buick Encore was stopped for the red traffic light eastbound on Quinnipiac Street at its intersection with South Colony Road, according to Jaques.

“The Buick was the first in a line of traffic waiting for the light to turn green,” Jaques wrote in a news release. “The traffic light changed to green and the Buick began to travel eastbound through the intersection onto Center Street. As the Buick was traveling through the intersection, the female was jogging southbound across Center Street in the crosswalk at the intersection of Center Street and South Colony Road. The Buick collided into the female in the crosswalk located in the center portion of the travel lane.”

The driver of the Buick stayed at the scene and is cooperating with police, according to Jaques.

Jaques said speed didn’t seem to be a factor in the collision, and the driver was not suspected to be under the influence of any drug or alcohol.

The case is being investigated by the Wallingford Police Traffic Division. Anyone with information is asked to call 203-294-2815.
