Large Car ‘Gathering’ Stopped In Wallingford: Police

Police said officers from neighboring departments helped bring the incident to a "peaceful resolution."

WALLINGFORD, CT — A large car gathering was stopped Friday night in Wallingford, according to police.

Police responded around 10:20 p.m. on May 3 to ShopRite at 846 North Colony Rd. on the report of a “large gathering of cars” forming in the parking lot, according to officials.

“Assistance was requested from the Cheshire, North Haven, and Meriden Police Departments and eventually, the crowd dispersed,” officials wrote in a post on Facebook. “Most of the vehicles that arrived at Shop Rite were from outside of Wallingford and outside of Connecticut.

“We would like to extend our appreciation to North Haven, Cheshire, and Meriden for helping this issue come to a peaceful resolution.”

North Haven police also reported on Friday night that they had shut down a “car gathering” of more than 200 vehicles that were heading to Universal Drive.

“After shutting down the event they traveled to a neighboring municipality,” North Haven police wrote in a post on Facebook at the time. “We are currently assisting them with the ‘car gathering.’”
