Lyman Hall High School Briefly Placed in Lockdown Thursday

The high school was put in a "shelter in place" mode as Wallingford Police dealt with a nearby resident who threatened to harm himself.

WALLINGFORD, CT — Lyman Hall High School was briefly put in a “shelter in place” mode on Thursday morning as police dealt with a nearby resident who threatened to harm himself with a firearm, according to officials.

Police quickly made contact with the individual, who was transported to a medical facility for treatment, according to Superintendent of Schools Dr. Salvatore Menzo.

In an email to parents, Menzo said that “at no time was the security or safety of any students in jeopardy” and police were using extreme caution in the situation.

“This morning, at approximately 9:35 a.m., the Police Department informed us that there was an individual who resides in the Southside Terrace area, who had expressed intentions of harming himself with a firearm. Wallingford Police resources were dispatched and a perimeter was quickly established.

“As the property in question borders the extreme west side of Lyman Hall High School property, the Police Department requested that the school shelter in place until the matter could be resolved. Shortly thereafter, officers made contact with the individual who was ultimately transported to a medical facility for treatment.

“At no time was the security or safety of any students in jeopardy and out of extreme caution, the Police Department asked for the temporary sheltering of students and staff. We also asked the students visiting the Ag Science Fair from Moses Y. Beach to go back to their school as a precaution.”
