Man Falsely Reported Robbery At Hotel In Wallingford: Police
Police say the man falsely reported that he was robbed while making a Craigslist transaction, but instead had violated a protective order.

WALLINGFORD, CT — A Manchester man is accused of falsely reporting being robbed at a hotel in Wallingford and instead violated a protective order that his girlfriend had against him, according to police. Raequen Dashawn Barber-Anderson, 22, reported to police on Oct. 10 that he was robbed while making a Craigslist transaction at the Courtyard Marriott Hotel, located at 600 Northrup Road, according to Lt. Michael Colavolpe.
Barber-Anderson, who lives in Manchester, was selling a cellphone and agreed to meet the buyer in Wallingford because it was halfway between his and the buyer’s residence. Barber-Anderson told police that his girlfriend drove him to Wallingford.
Barber-Anderson told police that he initially met the buyer inside the hotel, however, went outside to conduct the transaction inside the buyer’s car, according to Colavolpe. Barber-Anderson then told police that when he got inside the buyer’s vehicle, the buyer pulled out a knife and held it to him and demanded his possessions. Barber-Anderson said he refused and the buyer told him he had a gun and would shoot him if he didn’t give him what he asked.

Upon hearing this, Barber-Anderson told police he gave the buyer $300. Barber-Anderson provided responding officers with a description of the buyer and the buyer’s registration plate number.
“Detectives located the buyer a short time later at his residence,” Colavolpe wrote in a press release. “After speaking with the buyer and reviewing text messages between the buyer and Barber-Anderson, it was apparent that Barber-Anderson was not robbed. In addition, security footage and statements from Barber-Anderson’s girlfriend refuted Barber-Anderson’s statements. At the time of the incident, Barber-Anderson was the defendant of a no-contact protective order in which Barber-Anderson’s girlfriend was the victim.”

An arrest warrant for Barber-Anderson providing a false statement to the police and for violating a protective order was obtained, Colavolpe said.
Barber-Anderson was arrested by Vernon Police on Jan. 5 for an incident that occurred in that town and was turned over to Wallingford Police after posting bond, according to Colavolpe.
Barber-Anderson was given a court date of Jan. 8 at Meriden Superior Court and released after posting a $75,000 bond.
