Mayor Issues Statement After ICE Agents Seen In Wallingford
Federal ICE agents were recently reported to be in Wallingford.
WALLINGFORD, CT — Wallingford Mayor Vincent Cervoni has released a statement in response to residents’ concerns after federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents were seen taking a person into custody in town over the weekend.
The incident took place on Saturday, Jan. 24, according to Cervoni.
“Our police chief was made aware of this activity shortly after it occurred,” Cervoni said in the statement. “Information provided to Chief Ventura is that this was a criminal matter, the apprehension of an international fugitive. It is important to note that the apprehension occurred without incident.

“To clarify some confusion, local municipal government has no jurisdiction to regulate or limit the activities of federal law enforcement agencies.
“Wallingford police are empowered to enforce Connecticut state law. Our police are not empowered to enforce federal law and have not been participants in any ICE activity in Wallingford.

“If you are a victim of a crime, a violation of Connecticut state law, you should call the Wallingford Police Department.
“We encourage Wallingford residents not to interfere with law enforcement of any kind for your own personal safety.”
