Original story
Wallingford police located a missing Massachusetts teen Wednesday morning after searching throughout the night on reports she made a call from a diner in town Tuesday night.
Megan Donovan, 15, was reported missing on May 23 from Edgartown, Massachusetts and Edgartown police were notified late Tuesday night, around 11 p.m., that the man she was traveling with, Greg Mooney, had placed a call to a friend on Cape Cod.
That incoming phone number was obtained and Edgartown police made contact with the owner of the phone.
The owner of the phone told Edgartown police that he had encountered a young couple at a local diner in Wallingford and the male asked to borrow his phone to make a call.
He said that the male, along with his female companion, had now taken off, running away from the diner. Edgartown police then contacted the Wallingford Police Department and requested assistance.
The Meriden Record-Journal reports the couple made the call from Colony Diner on North Colony Road while hitchhiking.
Wallingford Police searched for the couple throughout the night, to no avail. At approximately 10 a.m. this morning, Wallingford officers located both Donovan and Mooney and they were taken into custody.
Donovan’s parents are on the way to Wallingford Police Department to reunite with Megan, Edgartown police said.
Mooney, 20, of Mashpee, Massachusetts, faces charges in the Wallingford jurisdiction of larceny (shoplifting) and risk of injury to a minor, Edgartown police said.
The Edgartown Police Department would like to thank the Wallingford Police Department in particular and the other numerous agencies and citizens that assisted with the search for Megan.
