Police say a man was caught burglarizing a Wallingford home thanks to the quick actions of an alert neighbor.

WALLINGFORD, CT — A Wallingford man was caught burglarizing a home Saturday night thanks to the quick actions of an alert neighbor, according to police. Wallingford Police received a call from a concerned citizen at about 8:30 p.m. on April 28, reporting that they believed someone was breaking into their neighbor’s home while they weren’t there.
Officers quickly surrounded the home and located Troy Amarante, 41, of Jennifer Lane, inside and immediately apprehended him, according to police. Amarante was charged with third-degree burglary, sixth-degree larceny and third-degree criminal mischief. He was held on a $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on May 9.
“The successful outcome of this incident was due largely, to the quick action of area neighbors, who provided timely and accurate information to the Wallingford Police communications center,” police wrote in a press release. “The Wallingford Police Department wishes to thank all of the citizens who continue to take an active role in reporting criminal activity in their neighborhoods.”
