North Haven K-9 Intercepts Drugs Headed for Wallingford

K-9 Koda sniffed out a package filled with marijuana at a distribution center that was heading to Wallingford and two men face drug charges.

North Haven, CT — North Haven K-9 Koda helped sniff out a 20-pound package filled with marijuana at a package distribution facility on Thursday, leading to the arrest of two men on drug charges, according to police.

North Haven Officer Alan Cantele, and K-9 Koda responded to a local package distribution facility to investigate a suspicious package on June 16.

Koda alerted to the package indicating drugs were located inside, police said.

The investigation revealed the 20-pound package was tightly packed and filled with marijuana bundled for distribution, according to police.

Detectives learned the package was intended to be delivered to a Wallingford address where two men were waiting for the delivery.

Markeyse Kelly, 38, of New Haven, and 38-year-old Robby Elbert from Meriden were taken into custody as they attempted to take delivery of the package, according to police.

Police also seized nearly $8,000 in cash and five cell phones in the arrest.

Both men were charged with possession of more than 4 ounces of marijuana, possession of more than 4 ounces of marijuana near a school, possession of marijuana with intent to sell, and conspiracy.

They each posted a $50,000 bond and are scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on June 30.
