Carol was a loving and dedicated mother to her daughter. Carol was small, but strong. She was a graduate of Lyman Hall High School, Class of 1967. Carol worked at many local companies to keep her head above water, no small feat at 4’ 7”! As a single mother, she was everything; the mother, the father, CEO, CFO, general executive and superhero in the eyes of her daughter who knew the struggles she overcame to be all those things for her; her co-conspirator through everything.

Carol gave life all she had despite the many struggles she faced and the various medical issues that couldn’t keep her down. She would never say she was perfect, but she set an example of how the worst circumstances can be the fuel that keeps one driving forward. She had a heart of gold and a backbone of titanium; stubbornness, love for all and humor through everything were no stranger to this mother. Those are only some of the traits she passed down to her daughter. Carol’s love of cats, children, crocheting, knitting and word searches kept her busy in the years after arthritis ravaged her physical body.

During the spring, summer, fall, and those occasional beautiful New England winter days she could be found outdoors enjoying the company of her wonderful neighbors, who had become family to her. She enjoyed spending time visiting local restaurants, attending concerts and spending days at local waterfronts feeling that beautiful sea breeze on her face, again, all with her daughter.

Carol leaves behind her only daughter, Heather Abel of Wallingford. She was predeceased by her sister Anna Abel, a loss she never recovered from, and her mother Grace Tyler, both formerly of Wallingford.

She will be remembered as a strong woman, raised by a strong woman, who raised another strong woman.

Due to the ongoing pandemic, funeral services will be determined at a later, safer date. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be made to The Hospital of Central CT in New Britain, where she spent her final days under the amazing care of Dr. Tim D’Amico and the wonderful nursing staff who stood in place of, and with her daughter. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main Street Ext., Wallingford.
