Obituary: Carol (Polnar) Burke, 67, of Wallingford

She was a Lyman Hall graduate and retired from Wallingford's Board of Education as a budget and grant clerk after 33 years of service.

Carol Ann (Polnar) Burke, 67, of Wallingford, wife of Charles “Al” Burke, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on February 17, 2017 after a life of love and kindness.

Affectionately known as Cissy, Carol was born on January 29, 1950, a daughter of the late Walter and Irene Sabo Polnar.

She was a graduate of Lyman Hall High School and retired from Wallingford’s Board of Education as a budget and grant clerk after 33 years of service. She was past member of the Board of Directors of the Wallingford Credit Union. She was also a past treasurer of the CT Association of Education Professionals. She loved her work and was very proud of the Wallingford school system.

Carol enjoyed watching UCONN Women’s basketball, traveling often to see games in various arenas. She was also a proud customer of the Mohegan Sun, impactfully influencing their profitability. The family wishes to thank the staff at Hartford Hospital, especially, their Hospice unit for the care and compassion shown to Carol, Charles and family.

Carol leaves behind her husband and soul mate of 45 years, Charles Burke. Inseparable for all of those years, he was her constant companion and the love of her life. She is also survived by her brothers, Walter Polnar of Middletown, Douglas (Lori) Polnar of Cheshire; her sister, Nancy (Dale) Calkins of Meriden; her nieces, Allison Calkins, Sara Carino; her nephew, Douglas Polnar; and a large extended family.

Her family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St. Ext., Thursday, February 23, 2017 from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. with a memorial service to be held at 5:30 p.m. during visiting hours. Interment will be Private. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory can be made to Hartford Hospital Hospice - Fund Development, P.O. Box 5037, Hartford, CT 06102-5037.
