Obituary: Cpt. Michael R. Tarasiewicz, 38, of Wallingford

Michael was a 1996 graduate of Lyman Hall and captain of the football and track teams. He served the U.S. Army in Iraq and Afghanistan.

CPT Michael R. Tarasiewicz, 38, son of Patricia and Thomas Tarasiewicz of Wallingford, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, October 12, 2016 in St. Roberts, MO.

Michael was born in Augusta, ME, December 19, 1977, and shortly thereafter relocated to Connecticut.

Attending Wallingford schools, Michael was a 1996 graduate of Lyman Hall High School, and was a captain of both the football and track teams.

In 2000, he matriculated from Worcester Polytechnic Institute and soon after enlisted with the U.S. Army, with the U.S. Army Corp. of Engineers. Upon Completion of training at Fort Leonard Wood, MO, and Fort Lewis, WA, he was assigned to the 1st Armor Division stationed in Germany.

Very soon thereafter his unit was deployed to Iraq. He subsequently served two additional tours in Iraq with the 82nd Airborne Division and upon completion of Officers Candidate School in May of 2011, he served a fourth deployment in Afghanistan with the 101st Air Assault Division. He was presently stationed at Fort Leonard, MO, with the HHC 5th Engineer Battalion.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his two brothers Brian and Steven; his sisters-in-law Courtney and Stacey; his grandmother Marguerite Tarasiewicz of Lexington, SC; his aunts; and uncles Stephan and Mary Metro of Lexington, SC, Robert and Mary Bourque of Dedham, MA, James and Carol Bourque of Gilead, ME, Susan Bourque and Donna Kiser of Dedham, MA; several nieces; and nephews; and many cousins.

His family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St. Ext., Friday, October 21, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Church of the Resurrection, Saturday, October 22, at 10 a.m. Those attending the Mass are asked to meet directly at church. Interment with military honors will be in the State Veterans’ Cemetery in Middletown.

In lieu of flowers, it is requested that a contribution be made to the Wounded Warriors Project, 4899 Belfort Road, Suite 300, Jacksonville, FL. 32256, or any local veterans group of your choosing.
