Obituary: Donald R. Ahearn, 93, of Wallingford

WALLINGFORD, CT - (From Wallingford Funeral Home) Donald R. Ahearn, 93, of Wallingford, died Tuesday, January 19, 2021, at home. He was born in New Haven, February 18, 1927. He was the son of the late Eugene J. And Marie D. Ahearn.

He was a lifelong resident of Wallingford. He proudly served in the U.S. Merchant Marine in 1944 and U.S. Navy in 1945.

He was an avid golfer and had been a longtime member of the Wallingford Country Club. Hunting and shooting sports were also his passions having belonged to numerous sporting clubs through the years.

He was President of Ahearn Development Corporation from 1951 to the present. They constructed hundreds of residential homes in Wallingford and surrounding towns. He renovated several older commercial buildings into multi-family residential and commercial complexes.

He is survived by his two daughters, Doreen Mary O'Rourke and her husband Timothy G. O'Rourke of Wallingford and Shelby Brook Bisi and her husband Greg Bisi of Colchester; his two sons, Jeffrey L. Ahearn and his wife Carol Ahearn of Portland and Daniel E. Ahearn of Wallingford; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his wife, Eileen Ahearn; a daughter, Beth Eileen Desmond Ahearn; two sons, Michael P. Ahearn and Donald R. Ahearn, Jr.; and his twin brother, Eugene Ahearn.

Funeral services and interment at In Memoriam Cemetery will be private. Arrangements are under the direction of The Wallingford Funeral Home.
