Obituary: Earl Darr, 75, of Wallingford

Earl was a chemist with Armstrong Rubber Company in West Haven from 1960 to 1981.

Earl Robert Darr, 75, of Wallingford (formally of West Haven) died August 12, 2016, at Hartford Hospital after a long illness. He was the beloved husband of Carmel Benoit Darr.

Besides his wife he leaves three daughters, Lisa A. (Michael) Gagne, Maureen R. and Karen D. Darr; two grandchildren, Chris and Stephen Gagne, all of Wallingford. He is also survived by his brother, Kenneth B. Darr Sr. of Waterbury, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Earl was born in New Haven on August 30, 1940 to the late Earl B. Darr and Margaret R. Torello Darr. He was a Boy Scout with Troop 69 of New Haven and earned the rank of Eagle. He was a 1958 graduate of West Haven H.S.

Earl was married June 9, 1962, and moved with his wife to West Haven in 1966. He was employed as a Chemist with Armstrong Rubber Company from 1960 to 1981 and was a member of their baseball, bowling and golf leagues. He was a member of the International Management Council of New Haven and the Connecticut Safety Society.

Earl attended the University of New Haven in West Haven and graduated Cum Laude in 1982 with a Bachelor in Science degree. He was employed as an Occupational Safety Engineer at Enthone-OMI Inc. for 16 years. Later, Earl worked as a Safety Consultant for ISM of Fairfield before retiring in 2002.

In 2007 Earl and his wife moved to Wallingford. He was a member of the Ridge Rod Seniors and the Wallingford Senior Center.

His family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 N. Main St. Ext., Wallingford on August 20, 2016 from 9 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. when the funeral cortege will proceed to Most Holy Trinity Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery in North Haven. In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory may be sent to the American Heart Association, Attn: Memorials, P O Box 417005, Boston, MA 02241-7005.
