Obituary: John D. Cortese, 72, of Wallingford

John D. Cortese, 72, of Wallingford, passed away after a brief illness, Friday, February 3, 2017 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in West Haven.

John was born in Waterbury, August 26, 1944, a son of the late Anthony Cortese and Faustina(Veneziano) Cortese and had been a Wallingford resident for many years. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran. John was a member of the VFW, the American Legion, the DAV and the Wallingford Elks Lodge. A lifetime Jets fan, he enjoyed fishing with friends and family, golfing and BBQ’s. He will be sorely missed.

He is survived by his three children Michael A. Cortese and his wife Heidi of Meriden; Karen E. Adams and her husband Louis and Stephen J. Cortese all of Wallingford; his two grandchildren Grace and John Cortese; and his two sisters Mary and Marjorie. He was predeceased by his brothers Thomas, Robert and Anthony.

His family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St. Ext., Wednesday, February 8, 2017 from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. A funeral service will be held in The Wallingford Funeral Home at 6 p.m. Interment with military honors will be in the State Veterans’ Cemetery in Middletown.
