Obituary: Marietta ‘Maria’ Parete Gigante, 91, Of Wallingford

WALLINGFORD, CT — (From Wallingford Funeral Home): Marietta “Maria” (Parete) Gigante, 91, of Wallingford, wife of the late Antonio Gigante, died peacefully at home with her loving family by her side on Monday, November 6, 2023.

Maria was born in Italy, September 23, 1932, a daughter of the late Gaetano and Graziella (DiTore) Parete.

She worked alongside her husband and children operating Gigante’s Deli for 50 years. She was a faithful parishioner of Most Holy Trinity Church. Her love for cooking brought our family, friends and the community together. She will be sadly missed and will always hold a place in our hearts.

Maria is survived by her three children and their spouses, Valentino and Olga Gigante, Joseph and Carol Gigante, and Grace and Dominic Giulietti; her seven grandchildren, Anthony Gigante (Stacy), Michael Gigante (Patricia), Anna Akier (Daniel), Anthony Gigante (Amanda), Joseph Gigante (Kristina), Jennifer Giulietti (Nicholas) and Jessica Giulietti; 12 great grandchildren; her sister, Teresa (Mrs. Biagio) Gulino; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings, Giacchino Parete and his wife Concetta, and Antonio Parete.

Maria’s family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 N. Main St. Ext., on Wed., Nov. 15th, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. when the funeral cortege will proceed to Most Holy Trinity Church, 84 N. Colony St., Wallingford where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 p.m. Interment will follow in St. John Cemetery in Wallingford.
