Obituary: Nicholas C. Evancha, 70, of Wallingford
Nicholas was a teacher with the Waterbury Public Schools and taught in the Alternative School for several years.

WALLINGFORD, CT - (From Wallingford Funeral Home) Nicholas C. Evancha, 70, of Wallingford, husband of Janis (Appel) Evancha, passed away peacefully October 15, 2020 at Connecticut Hospice in Branford.
He was born in Waterbury on December 2, 1949, a son of the late Nicholas and Elizabeth (Choma) Evancha.
He was a teacher with the Waterbury Public Schools and taught in the Alternative School for several years. While there, he shared his love of fishing and the outdoors with his students, and also was the assistant basketball coach. He also taught 6th grade math, social studies and science at several middle schools and was the assistant baseball coach.

He continued to share his love of fishing and sports with his daughter, Kristen, and his nieces and nephews. He loved the ocean and had a special attachment to Lake Bomoseen in Vermont, where he spent summers as a child.
He and his wife Janis thought of each other as soulmates, the best of best friends, “singers of each other’s song”.

He is survived by his wife Janis Evancha, his daughter, Kristen Evancha, his sister Susan Van Vessem, his brother David Evancha, his sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Appell Eitzer and Adrianne Appel; his step-mother, Pat Appel; and several nieces and nephews.
Due to the ongoing pandemic, a memorial service will be held at the Yalesville United Methodist Church in safer times.
