Obituary: Robert 'Bob' James Pouliot, 77, of Wallingford

Bob served in the U.S. Navy and worked as an Aerospace Engineer on numerous projects for Sikorsky, Pratt and Whitney and Boeing.

WALLINGFORD, CT - (From Wallingford Funeral Home): Robert “Bob” James Pouliot, 77, of Wallingford, passed away December 18, 2020 at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford.

He was born in Hartford on September 28, 1943 to Roland and Stella.

He grew up with his numerous siblings and went to school in Hartford. At age 14 he moved in with his adult sister Valerie and brother-in-law Lloyd who were very good to him.

Once he graduated from High School he immediately joined the United States Navy at 18. After the military he went back to live with his sister and brother-in-law for a while and enjoyed his time as an uncle to their children.

He then went on to create an auto body business with his friend, Craig Niquette. After Bob left the auto body business, he was a jack of all trades, performing many different jobs, until he decided on going back to school for Engineering and eventually earned his doctorate.

He worked as an Aerospace Engineer on numerous projects for Sikorsky, Pratt and Whitney, Boeing and many other big names throughout his life. In his youth he was an avid skier.

He was also a lifelong fan of boxing. He was a devout Catholic and for a time was a Franciscan Monk.

He served in the United States Navy for and was stationed on the aircraft carrier the USS Shangri-La. He received his honorable discharge certificate in 1967.

He is survived by his son, Trevor Pouliot of Wallingford; his lifelong friend, Susan Potter of West Haven; his brother, Thomas Pouliot; his sister, Sandra Pouliot; his brother-in-law, Lloyd Trauger; his Nephew, Lloyd Trauger Jr.; his nieces, Debbie and Jenny Trauger and their respective children; his nephews, Eugene Handy Jr, Daniel Handy, and niece Lisa Seker (Handy) and their respective children; as well as uncle, Norman Pouliot; his cousin, Sue Saldibar (Pouliot) and her son, Spenser Saldibar; and by longtime friend, Craig Niquette.

He is predeceased by his sisters, Valerie Trauger (Pouliot) and Barbara McGuire (Pouliot) and his brothers, Roland "Sonny" Pouliot and Dennis Pouliot.

Bob's family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St. Ext., Monday, December 28, 2020 from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m.

His funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. in the funeral home. Interment will be in All Saints Cemetery in North Haven. (Social Distancing and Covid-19 Precautions are required to be followed at the funeral home and cemetery).
