Parks & Recreation Director Leaving Wallingford

The longtime Parks & Rec. director is retiring next week for a new job in Cheshire.

WALLINGFORD, CT — Wallingford will be looking for a new parks and recreation director as John Gawlak is retiring next week to take a similar position in Cheshire, according to multiple reports.

The Meriden Record-Journal reports Gawlak, 54, will start his new job as parks director in Cheshire on May 13 and will earn $93,000. His salary in Wallingford was $111,792.

Gawlak worked for Wallingford Parks and Recreation for 31 years, including the last 16 as the department’s director, and recently became eligible to collect a pension from Wallingford, according to the New Haven Register.

The Register reports Gawlak has offered to serve as a volunteer on Wallingford’s Pool Committee as the town determines what it wants to do with the aging Community Pool complex.
