Pedestrian Critically Injured After Being Hit By Pickup Truck: PD

The pedestrian suffered life-threatening injuries after being struck by a pickup truck while crossing the street in Wallingford, police say.

WALLINGFORD, CT — A pedestrian was critically injured after being struck by a pickup truck while trying to cross the street Friday evening in Wallingford, according to police. The victim, identified by police as 31-year-old Kamil P. Wolanowski, of Wallingford, was taken to Hartford Hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries, according to Lt. Anthony DeMaio. Wolanowski was unresponsive as of late Friday night and listed in “highly critical condition” with severe head trauma, DeMaio said.

The collision occurred shortly after 6 p.m. on Old Colony Road in the Tracey Section of Wallingford, approximately 360 feet north of its intersection with Atwater Place. DeMaio said the investigation of the crash, which is ongoing, revealed that the operator of a white-colored 2015 Nissan Frontier pickup truck, identified as 69-year-old Stephen Fellegy of Wallingford, was traveling southbound on Old Colony Road when the truck struck Wolanowski while he was attempting to walk across the roadway.

“The pedestrian was struck within the southbound travel lane occupied by the Nissan, along a relatively well lit, flat and straight portion of the roadway,” DeMaio said. “Weather conditions were not a factor in this incident.”
