Police Seize Heroin, Cocaine, Cash During Traffic Stop In Wallingford

K-9 Tate helped sniff out the drug bust after officers observed drug packaging materials in plain view inside the vehicle, police said.

WALLINGFORD, CT — Wallingford Police seized more than 50 wax folds of heroin along with some cocaine and cash during a traffic stop Thursday evening.

Police conducted a motor vehicle stop at about 5:30 p.m. on March 2 of a Ford Bronco after noticing the New York State registration plate was obscured by an object, according to Sgt. James Cifarelli.

Cifarelli said that while speaking with the operator, officers observed drug packaging materials in plain view inside the Bronco.

The driver was identified as Matthew Dormandy, 32, a former Wallingford resident who now lives in Buskirk, New York.

Dormandy was found to be in possession of approximately 2.5 grams of cocaine and three bags of heroin. Inside the vehicle, four bags of heroin were found in the cup holder, according to Lt. Michael Colavolpe.

K-9 Officer Lou Brangi and K-9 Tate conducted a further search of the vehicle.

Colavolpe said K-9 Tate "developed a hit" on the center console area of the vehicle and upon further examination, detectives located 50 bags of heroin and a second bag containing approximately 2.5 grams of cocaine. These items were hidden underneath the center console, according to Colavolpe.

During the investigation, detectives developed information that Dormandy was selling heroin and approximately $350 was seized from Dormandy, according to Colavolpe.

Dormandy was charged with possession of narcotics with intent to sell, possession of narcotics, possession of drug paraphernalia, operating while under suspension, and illegible marker plate. He was initially held on bond and later released on a promise to appear by the bail commissioner.

Dormandy is scheduled to appear at Meriden Superior Court on March 16.
