Police: Truck Driver Killed In Norwich Crash Was Wallingford Man

The driver killed in tractor-trailer crash that closed I-395 southbound Monday has been identified as Robert P. Neubig, 61, of Wallingford.

NORWICH, CT—The driver killed in tractor-trailer accident that shut down I-395 southbound in Norwich Monday afternoon has been identified. Connecticut State Police said Robert P. Neubig, 61, of 10 Signal Hill Road, Wallingford died as a result of injuries sustained in the fiery accident near exit 11.

According to state police, Neubig, who is reported as owning the rig, was driving a tractor trailer unit that was hauling an "over-height trailer."

His truck struck an overpass, and driver Neubig lost control of the truck and trailer, which rolled over and the tractor part of the rig caught on fire and then, "came to uncontrolled final rest blocking the entirety of the highway."

The state police report reads that Neubig had a passenger, who not only survived the crash but police said, had "no apparent injury."
