Residents Rally to 'Save the Wallingford Fireworks'
An online petition has been launched, saying the town's annual fireworks display in is "jeopardy," urging town officials to fund the event.

WALLINGFORD, CT — Hundreds of residents are calling on Wallingford Mayor William W. Dickinson Jr. and the town council to adjust the town budget to fully fund the cost of the town’s annual fireworks display.
An online petition at GoPetition.com was launched on April 3 and has garnered 664 signatures as of Wednesday morning.
The petition, which was created by Wayne Harriman, says that the fireworks display is “once again in jeopardy.”
The town stopped funding the event in 2009 and since then several volunteers began raising the necessary funds to ensure that the fireworks display would continue, according to the page.
“For the past 6 years they have been very successful, keeping the patriotic tradition going every year,” Harriman writes on the page. “Now, that tradition is once again in jeopardy. The group of volunteers can no longer make the commitment in time and effort necessary to ensure the continuation of the town fireworks and believe the town should once again take on the financial and organizational burden they relinquished in 2009.”
