Robbery Suspect Caught During DUI Checkpoint: Wallingford Police

Wallingford Police release results of Friday night's DUI checkpoint.

WALLINGFORD, CT — Wallingford Police made several arrests during Friday night’s DUI checkpoint, including a person who was wanted in connection to a robbery, and also issued several citations. Members of the Wallingford Police Department Traffic, Patrol and Detective Divisions conducted the checkpoint on May 26 on South Colony Road.

Funding for the checkpoint effort was made available by the police department’s participation in a state of Connecticut Department of Transportation Highway Safety DUI Enforcement Grant. (To sign up for Wallingford breaking news alerts and more, click here.)

“The funding supported the staffing necessary to allow Wallingford Police Officers to specifically dedicate our efforts on DUI enforcement in a continual endeavor to reduce alcohol related accidents and the resulting injuries and fatalities,” Lt. Anthony DeMaio said in a press release.

The following is a synopsis of the arrests made and citations issued during Friday night’s DUI Checkpoint operation by the Wallingford Police Department:

  • Four people were arrested for DUI, one of which was also charged with Possession of Marijuana
  • Nine people were cited for Possession of Marijuana and related Drug Paraphernalia
  • One person was cited for Operating a motor vehicle without a license and Operating an Unregistered motor vehicle
  • One person was arrested on an Outstanding Superior Court Arrest Warrant for Felony Robbery

Additionally, numerous others were issued verbal warnings for a variety of motor vehicle-related offenses, including but not be limited to: improper turns, cellphone violations, failure to display marker plates, equipment violations, and seatbelt violations.
