Stolen Vehicle Located During ‘Click It Or Ticket’ Campaign: Wallingford Police
Wallingford Police release results of the recent "Click It or Ticket" campaign.

WALLINGFORD, CT — Wallingford Police cited 167 operators for failing to wear a safety belt along with several other offenses, including possession of a stolen vehicle, during the recent “Click It or Ticket” enforcement campaign. Wallingford Police participated in the state DOT’s enforcement campaign from May 22 to June 6. Funding was made available to support overtime allowing Wallingford Police Officers to specifically dedicate their efforts to enforce safety belt violations, according to police.
“Operators, as well as passengers when appropriate, were cited for their failure to wear a safety belt while the vehicle was in operation,” Lt. Anthony DeMaio said in a press release. “Although Connecticut’s statewide seat belt use has increased in recent years, Connecticut falls below NHTSA’s 2016 national average and unbelted fatalities are still a major issue in our state. We are hopeful that enforcement efforts such as this will remind operators and their passengers to buckle-up for safety.”
While working specifically on this grant, Wallingford Police Officers cited 167 operators and/or passengers for failing to wear a safety belt, and 123 of those for a variety of other offenses, including: DUI, drug offenses, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, misuse of marker plates, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, operating without insurance, outstanding warrants, and cellular telephone use while in operation of a motor vehicle, among others, according to DeMaio. “Although this grant has supplemented the Wallingford Police Department’s efforts in safety belt enforcement, as we always have, we will put forth a continual effort to make Wallingford roadways safer,” DeMaio said.
