Student Arrested For ‘Alarming’ Message About School: Police

The student posted an "alarming message" about the school on social media, according to Wallingford Police.

WALLINGFORD, CT — A student has been arrested for posting an “alarming message” on social media about Lyman Hall High School, according to police. Wallingford Police were notified of the message, which was posted on Snapchat, during the overnight hours.

“The author of the message expressed his annoyance with Lyman Hall High School,” Lt. Cheryl Bradley said in a press release. “The content of the message was alarming in nature and the involvement of law enforcement officials was appropriate.”

In cooperation with the Wallingford Public School System and administrators, the student was quickly identified and interviewed by police. The 17-year-old student was arrested and charged with second-degree breach of peace.

The student wasn’t on school property on Friday morning and isn’t allowed on school property at this time, according to Superintendent of Schools Dr. Salvatore Menzo. The administration will now work with the Board of Education to “ensure policy is followed, and the matter is addressed in a serious and swift manner,” Menzo said.

“I know there have been questions as to why communication was delayed,” Menzo said in an email to parents. “The reasons for this delay was due to the fact that there was an active investigation of a minor, the suspect’s location was known, and there was no immediate threat to students and staff at Lyman Hall High School. Therefore, we needed to wait until the arrest had been made at the child’s home and the police department was prepared for us to provide this statement.
