Student Is Accused of Leaving Threatening Note at Vinal Tech

School officials locked down the Middletown school Tuesday afternoon as Connecticut State Police investigated the incident.

A threatening note was discovered in Tuesday afternoon at Vinal State Technical School in Middletown, prompting a lockdown while Connecticut State Police investigated.

According to Connecticut State Police spokesman Lt. J. Paul Vance said in a statement, that an 18-year-old student from Guilford has been arrested in connection with the incident.  

At approximately 12:48 p.m Tuesday, State Police at Troop F was notified by the administrative school staff that a threatening note was found inside the school at 60 Daniels St. The school administration immediately put the school in lock down as troopers responded to the school, according to Vance.

The troopers' initial investigation gathered facts and evidence that identified an 18-year-old student as a suspect. The student was identified as Mark Andrade, 18, of 219 State St., Guilford.

Police did not detail the contents of the note.

Andrade was charged with first-degree threatening and breach of peace. Andrade was transported to Troop F barracks in Westbrook where he was held on a $10,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear Wednesday, May 14 in Middletown Superior Court.
